SWEEEEEEET 16!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(12) Arizona 71, (13) Cleveland St 57

And just like that, a mostly-crappy season has been redeemed.

the concept of a rivalry in a 3-year-old's brain

In delayed celebration of Arizona's recent victory over #11 UCLA...

I was watching the game in my home last Saturday (a luxury for me since most of Denver could care less about the Pac-10 and instead prefers watching Broncos highlights year-round...which, having grown up in a college city, I find extremely annoying) with Mason on my lap (another luxury, since the kid will usually only sit still for Backyardigans and Star Wars), and we were having the following conversation:

"Daddy, is that Ona?" (pronounced "owe-na," which is Mason-lingo for "Arizona")

I proudly recognize that I've taught him well since he can recognize Arizona apparel without being able to read. "Yep. Go Cats!"

"Who is the blue team?"

"Those are the bad guys."

"Why they bad? They like to hurt people?"

"Well, no..............but Arizona's the good guys, so the Bruins are the bad guys."

"Oh............................................Daddy, what's a Bruin?"

"It's a bear."

"Oh. Are bears bad?"

"Well...............uh............yeah, sometimes. They like to hurt people."

"Oh."

Mason runs off. Which is about right, since he had been sitting still for over 5 minutes. A minute later he returns with two of his toys and sits them down in front of me without saying a word.

That's my boy.

super bowl XLIII

This certainly wasn't the most painful loss I've ever experienced (see UA-UNLV 1989 or UA-Illinois 2005), but it still smarts a bit.

So close.

hell freezes over

I never thought I'd see these two logos together. Of course, in a year when ASU basketball is in the top 15 and the UA might not even make the tournament, I guess it shouldn't be that much of a surprise.

it's gotta be close

I've heard a lot of comments lately about the end-times being close. Most of them have been in reference to the recent election. I wasn't very convinced until I saw the UA basketball game last night.

The end has gotta be close.

goodbye lute

I don't have the energy to actually write a whole blog about Lute Olson's retirement, however I also couldn't not comment on such a monumental event for a lifetime diehard U of A fan. Let's just say that 2008 sucks. There's no reason why I would expect it to be any different at this point.

Bayless tells UA he'll enter NBA draft
Guess he's not the "competitor" I thought he was.

West Virginia 75, Arizona 65

Tonight I went through once again what every fan goes through when their team stinks it up. I rooted hard for them for most of the game...cheering for every much-needed 3-pointer and yelling at every horrendous choke. Then when I realized it just wasn't gonna happen I started cheering for the enemy. "What a fitting end to a crappy season. I hope they lose." Seemed to make sense at the time, but I only go there to lessen the pain.

It's still fresh. "There's always next year." Lute's back next year...I expect he'll resurrect the program if he can resurrect himself first.
